Organic Farming

Since 2002, JVUF has grown and marketed healthy organic produce and cut flowers. Our produce supplies local restaurants, farmers markets, schools, floral distributors, grocery stores, and our own Farm Stand and Food Box subscriptions.

Our farm sites currently include the Gardens of Park Place, the Alabama School of Fine Arts Teaching Garden, and the East Avondale Community Garden, where we have a total of 4 acres under production.

From arugula to zinnias, blueberries to bok choi, squash to sunflowers, and everything in between, we have expanded the capabilities of abandoned urban lots as we have pushed the palettes of local schoolchildren and delighted the decadence of local chefs. Please enjoy a stroll along our garden paths among our produce and flowers – and meet the other members of the ecological community that make our sustainable farm work: the bugs, birds, and bacteria that help us grow naturally for the freshest, healthiest produce you can get.
