EDUCATION / SEED 2 PLATE

Seed 2 Plate is a comprehensive food education field trip program taught at Birmingham’s only Urban Farm by Farmers, Agri-scientists, Dieticians, and Chefs, and includes activities that take place:

    • in the field (literally)
    • in the classroom
    • and in the kitchen

In Seed 2 Plate students learn about growing plants, preparing food, and growing healthy by making good food choices in a series of fun, hands-on activities. Bring your students to our Downtown farm for unique and powerful field trips. Each program has an agriculture lesson, a nutrition lesson, and a culinary lesson connected by a unifying theme, so students have cumulative learning opportunities centered around food.

A healthy snack prepared by students (instructed by a Chef) is included in each program!

Each Seed 2 Plate field trip takes about 2 ˝ hours and cost is $8 per student. Some fee subsidies and bus subsidies are available. Teachers are encouraged to bring each class for five field trips, taking advantage of a broad range of topics surrounding food.
